GWU Enchantress

I want to present a new deck. Some people tried already an enchantress deck in highlander format but werent satisfied. So we dont see much of this archetype.

Most builds run only G/W and have a token plan. I´ve tried to add U because of Copy Enchantment, Treachery, Attunement, Wargate, Propaganda and ofc the good stuff (Fact or Fiction , Gifts Ungiven, Intuition). So my idea was to stall the game and finish my opponent off with combo (Earthcraft+Squirrel Nest/Sacred Mesa/Fertile Ground etc.) or simply get a bunch of 4/4er flyers. Even Opalessence is a viable win condition.

So its more like a synergetic combo/control deck than a classic G/W token Enchantress deck. The goal of this deck is to generate a huge card advantage with enchantress effects and sabotage the opponent until the combo or own kill options are assembled. Even after a board sweeper like Akromas Vengeance this deck can easily recover with replenish or Open the Vaults. With Attunement its even possibile to get the whole deck in the graveyard and recur them with the same spells.

So I build this  deck as a multiplayer deck but since its performing so well (which means its like a combo deck at a certain point and its just playing with its own cards) I wanted to establish a solid 1v1 deck. So as a result this deck was created.

Some remarks

Lands:

Not much to say except I run the filter lands because the deck need a lot of coloured mana. Also Dust Bowl have found his way in because of Crucible of worlds and Exploration shenanigans. Tolaria West finds me Serras Sanctum which is a key land for this deck (I am also thinking about Engineered Explosives but it could destroy also a lot of my stuff too because I run a lot of cheap  enchantments). Horizon Canopys is also a very nice land in combination with Crucibile of worlds.

Creatures:

Well pretty standard choices for an enchantress deck. I am missing Eternal Witness because I want to keep my enchantment count as high as possible. And since I´ve got a lot of mass resurection (Replenish, Open the Vaults) + Holistic Wisdom I dont think I need her.

Non-Enchantment Spells:

Most of the cards are self explaining. Jace and Garruk are just great of their own so I had included them. What I am missing here is graveyard removal. I thought about Ground Seal because its an enchantment and also a cantrip instead of the usual stuff (Tormods Crypt, Phyrexian Furnace).

Warportal finds me often the Serras Sanctum and if I have it allready a Future Sight or something similiar strong (Sigil of the empty Throne or combo parts)

Enchantments:

There are some sub groups.

Removal // Oblivion Ring, Seal of Cleansing, Journey of Nowhere

Kill // Sigil of the empty throne, Opalessence, Squirrel Nest + Earthcraft

Utility// Sterling Grove, Copy Enchantment, Attunement

Stalling// Propaganda, Humility, Solitary Confinement

Most of the cards are pretty obvious for an enchantress deck. Cards like Lignify are not. I like this card because its an cheap good creature removal since it “answers” every problematic creature (except with shroud which is a big issue for this deck). Mind harness and Confiscate are some weird cards too for a competetive deck but since Holistic Wisdom cycles 2/3 of my deck and makes nearly every card a regrowth I have no problems running them. Of course it depends on your meta. Here I ´ve got a very heavy aggro meta.

So I would suggest to add Counterbalance or City of Solitude if you have an heavy control meta. Also mystic remora, which I am running in the multiplayer version of this deck ,is very good. Spreading Seas is just awesome. I liked this sideboard tech from Type 2 and added it to my deck since it draws a card anyway or even two if you have an enchantress effect on the board. You can colour screw your opponent or answer problematic lands (most of the time man lands or in the past LoA).

Finaly there are the kill options.

Opalessence is pretty obvious a no brainer same is true for Sigil of the empty throne. The squirrel/earthcraft combo is also very neat. Easy to assemble and you dont need all the time your nest. A Fertile grounded land + Earthcraft + Sacred Mesa are also doing the job. Hoofprints of the Stag looks realy bad on paper but they are just insane once you get your draw engine online.

So far thats my list. I want to remind you the core of this deck was created for multiplayer and on a heavy aggro meta. But I played some tourneys and was very satisfied by the performance.

so far~

I have tested a very similar version of this deck some time ago, but the problem is it isn`t constant enough. You have many dead cards in particular marchups, against control all the anti-aggro stuff is bad and against aggro you need it. So in Game one when you don´t know what your oppenent is playing your spoils is some kind of gamble and even in game2 you don´t have safe the right cards.
If this deck works it is verx funny and strong, but it doesn´t work as often as you want….
So nice casual but i don´t want to pilot this in tornement modus…

    What about Oath of Druids?
You are playing so view creatures, and all of them are importent.

    @Peeler:

Well in the last tournament I´ve played I had to beat two control decks (esper/bant) and three aggro decks (2xNaya/ MonoG Elves) and my deck had all the time the right cards. I guess if I am playing vs some Oath/Staxx or monoU control decks I realy have some dead cards but most of the time I can simply cycle them or they are just cantrips (thx to enchantress cards). And that is the strong part of the deck once you´ve got the draw engine online it dosent matter if you draw one or two dead cards.

Besides to know how to spoil against an unknown deck is allways difficult with control decks, since you dont know if you have to keep the creature removal, counter or something else. This deck is no difference but the good thing is, you can allways cycle your cards and most of them are very flexible (except humility, propaganda etc. they have a straight plan and arent that good vs control). Even a lignify can help vs some control decks.

    @Georg B:

I didnt consider an Oath. But I dont know if I realy need one. But its very interesting. Important thing is, to have an disenchant effect if my opponent would benefit from it (Hoofprings of the stack, Sigil of an empty throne) bc I´ve got to many creatures. But its worth a considertion since my enchantresses are pretty important.

what about the kor spiritdancer guy. not all enchantments are auras, but the dancer should still draw his fair amount of cards.
worldly and sylvan tutor are also options to up the argothian ench turn 2 count up to 3.

    Why no Tabernacle?

  9. Tabris Tabris says:

Bc it can usually create a anti-synergy with my token producers and I have to get rid of it by myself. I think aggro is not the problem for the deck.

Its more like control which counter/get rid of my key spells.

What about Moat, might be the perfect card to beat any aggro deck, and i guess you can cast it quite fast with your mana acceleration enchantement spells, and it’s a great Target for your Tutors ( sorry for the Bad engl, i am german, i do my best : / )

i also think you can crash some decks when you add Counterbalance into your deck, you have very difrent costs of Mana in your deck, so i think, will be an improvement.

the other idea i have, is to add Defense of the Heart into your deck, and 2-3 Critters which can finish the enemys easily, i think Iona is kick as vs Mono colored decks, and perhaps the new critters like Emrakul and these guys, as an alternate win option. cause you have only a few options, which are easy to image for the enemy, so he will counter them , and let the lock u produce come, but then u have no win options on the board, so a few more will be nice i think.

  13. Tabris Tabris says:

I added counterbalance already in the real life version. Moat is sometimes not the best since I am playing Earthcraft combo and also Opal Essence. I win most games with a huge swing with my enchantments. But in a aggro heavy meta its maybe the right call. Emrakul seems neat. It also refill my library if needed (which can be also bad if I trying to set a huge replenish with Attunement).

I will think about Iona. Sometimes its just the win even vs two colored decks.

Hi, I have played highlander deck for about a year and here are my perceptions. You usually dont have free mana do use Dust bowl, however You need a lot of mana to cast enchantments, so I would not play it. No objections to the other lands (except for their price :D ) I really wouldnt play Argivian Find because eternal witness is much better if you add some Worldly Tutor or Congregation at Dawn. Not sure about regrowth but I dont play it. I would miss Time spiral, redundant card in this deck as well asi crucible of the worlds. Garruk and Jace are ofc strong cards but not essential in this deck. I really would play eternal witness and Sovereigns of lost alara, which requires Eldrazi Conscription and Pattern of rebirth as the strongest auras…I play also pariah and ancestral mask as a surprise. Aggro decks can be very fast, so i usually appreciate Wall of Blossoms and Wall of omens, even sakura and yavimaya granger are cool. Enchantments are quite ok, i would miss some of them, and definitely play enchanted evening (with opalescence really cool), saproling burst is also fine and my favourite card Enduring ideal is also missing ( you can find combos in 2 turns). Now im testing the version with black (4 colors) because of Zur, Pernicious deed, Seal of Doom etc.
